Using a Medical Review Officer (MRO) to review and interpret a drug test result protects you, as the employer, from making decisions regarding an employee’s claim that his or her drug test result was caused by a medication or medical treatment. It also keeps you from having to deal with the complicated issues related to the release or disclosure of private employee medical information.
Our MROs contact donors to determine if there is a legitimate medical explanation for a positive drug test result. If there is a legitimate medical explanation, the MRO will then obtain verification of a valid prescription or recent medical treatment. Once the verification is complete, then the MRO will release the drug test result to the employer as negative. The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires MRO review on every federal drug test result and we highly recommend that you have your non-DOT results reviewed by an MRO as well.
